About

Welcome to Highway to Horror – your one-way ticket into the heart of your favorite horror films.

What IS Highway to Horror, exactly?

This site is built from firsthand visits and ridiculously-dedicated research, born from a love standing right where my favourite movies were filmed.

If you’ve ever wondered whether that creepy cabin from The Ring still exists (it does), or if you can actually walk through a movie location like a far-off Alien planet (you can), or if the internet got it totally wrong on a specific horror location (it does, often), that’s where we come in.

Some of the places we’ve seen for ourselves, and our posts pack in all the details about our expeditions. Others took weeks to verify through hunting down production interviews, old news reports (AccessBank is my friend!), and screengrab-matching. You’ll find all of that here in (almost) every post!

Who’s the buffoon behind Highway to Horror?

It’s me, Gem Seddon!

I have 14 years of freelance writing experience, contributing to outlets such as Fangoria, Regal Cinemas, TechRadar, Vulture, GamesRadar+Certified Forgotten, Digital Spy, and more.

My journey into the realm of horror movie locations began back in 2009 when I started blogging during a backpacking trip across the globe. In New Zealand, I was inspired to write about the Heavenly Creatures locations, and once in the US I got hooked and tracked down the Scream and Monster locations.

Over the years, my passion for exploring and sharing these macabre locales only grew. In fact, it led me to contribute to the DK Eyewitness Guide The Screen Traveler’s Guide which was published in October 2023 where I dove even deeper into the world of film locations. My love of research is steered by my day job as a librarian. I sniff out facts and sources like a bloodhound. Knowledge is my business.
